Why even have mages in that plac ethen/ ? What makes them different from the other executionerS?

Even in real life, it makes no sense to kill people in this fashion. You wouldn't hire exceptional soldiers or martial artists for something like execution. You certainly wouldn't give your opponent a fighting chance, especially if your opponent is a skilled warrior. Ever seen Gladiator? That's what can happen if things go wrong.

If you wanted to put someone down, you would most likely subdue them first and then kill them effectively via a weapon of some sorts. Against high level mages, Aetherion or some other weapon like Jupiter canon can be used. Remember, people of Jellal's calibre are at the level of 10 wizard saints. It stands reason that Aetherion is an appropriate method of execution for people of this stature.

I suspect that this whole thing with the Executioners is a farce, a form of intimidation used by Arcadeus. The "Wolf Knights" are probably a group of mercenaries or an actual squad under Arcadeus's control.

If some mages attack the palace, then they would defend it with the army. I imagine that legal guilds in the area would also be ordered to assist should any trouble arise.

You fire Aetherion to get him, but the rest? A ruler like that wouldn't last much, people would murder him...Seems a bit irresponsible to do that just to kill one person >.>

And the army looks like a bunch of...I don;t know the number of legal guilds, but what if the population is divided?The mages too?

Just go to somewhere that's abandoned, and cast the spell there. It doesn't have to be Aetherion either. The council most likely owns access to all sorts of magic like Jupiter Canon, Abyss Break (though they wouldnt use it), and Aetherion, ect, ect...

Just like in real life, Luna, you have to arrest the guy first. Once they are captured, you can drag him (under restraints) out to a desert and execute him there.

If the enemy is very strong, and elusive...Then they can avoid capture. Hence dark guilds.

If the threat level was that such as Zeref+Grimoire Heart, they might just deem it to require casualties.

I think I'll go with Decadus on something. There is something fishy about this situation. You wouldn't just keep mages like the 'Wolves' deep underneath and just drop some prisoners for them to play with. If the 'Wolves' really used to work for Arcadios, I bet they are the ones he planned to used against Zeref/Acnologia when the were going back in time. Also even if thay are really strong, you could lose 2 important men against Natsu and Mira. those 2 have the power to produce you important casualties if you corner them, attack their nakama or piss them off seriously. So if Arcadios is bluffing, he better make sure nothing happens to Lucy and Yukino which don't have the keys or to Wendy

That's the only reason I can think of why the Wolves are the one being ordered to carry out these executions.

What better way to kill off hope and make a criminal suffer than by letting them get a glimpse of it and then taking it away at the last second by introducing the Wolves?
